MY MENTON
Some towns are places we visit; others become part of who we are. Menton belongs to the second group for me. I love walking slowly through its streets, seeing sunlight on the façades, glimpsing the sea around a corner and discovering gardens climbing the hillsides.

The Saint-Michel ramps: walking into the old town
From Les Sablettes, I love climbing the ramps leading to the Basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange. The stairways, colourful façades, unexpected views and bell tower slowly coming into sight are among my favourite images of Menton. The old town is not simply a postcard: it is a place to experience on foot.
Garavan, where climate shapes the landscape
Garavan has a character of its own. Sheltered by the hills and facing the Mediterranean, its mild winters and microclimate helped make it a setting for acclimatisation gardens, elegant villas and green estates. Opened in 1888, Boulevard de Garavan recalls the era when this part of the Riviera attracted visitors from across Europe. I enjoy exploring it slowly, among exotic plants, fine houses and views towards Italy.

Towards the Sentier des Douaniers: footsteps and the sound of the sea
There is a walk I especially love: following the seafront from Menton towards Cap Martin, eventually reaching the Sentier des Douaniers, also known as the Le Corbusier promenade. Once on the trail, away from traffic, there is little but footsteps, the wind and the gentle wash of waves against the rocks. It is a kind of quiet that needs no words: walking and listening are enough.

The Menton I love
I love the contrasts: the stonework of the old town and the almost tropical greenery of Garavan; the steps leading to Saint-Michel and the sea opening up between the houses. This page brings together a few places I keep returning to. Elsewhere on the website I explore the gardens, history, craftspeople and food traditions in greater depth.
